PSG sack manager Tuchel on Christmas Eve

Paris Saint-Germain have sacked Thomas Tuchel as their manager on Christmas Eve, according to Sky Germany.

The 47-year-old was contracted until the end of the current campaign, having signed an extension last May.

The French champions are currently third in Ligue 1, just a point behind leaders Lyon and have lost only four of their 17 games in the league.

Tuchel leaves the Parc des Princes after two-and-a-half years in charge.

During that spell, the 47-year-old won six trophies including back-to-back league titles.

However, Wednesday night’s 4-0 win over Strasbourg became his last game with the club.

Before the match, Tuchel had given an interview in his homeland, in which he was quoted as saying he had, at times, felt more like “a sports politician or sports minister than a coach” during his tenure.

By losing the Champions League final, he ensured his tenure would be remembered as ordinary.

Having lost control of the top spot in Ligue 1, the club’s hierarchy have clearly decided it’s time to move on. We await official confirmation from PSG in the meantime.

Early odds on Sky Bet suggested Mauricio Pochettino is the frontrunner to take over at PSG, with the odds on the former Spurs manager as low as 1/20 before Sky Bet closed betting. Sky Germany reporter Max Bielefeld has said the 48-year-old is a possible successor, along with Massimiliano Allegri.
