Barcelona kept the pressure on Real Madrid at the top of the table with a comfortable 6-1 victory over Sporting Gijon at Camp Nou.

The hosts were 2-0 up after just 11 minutes, Lionel Messi opening the scoring with a header before a Juan Rodríguez own goal doubled Barca’s lead.

Sporting did grab one back through Carlos Castro before Luis Suarez restored their two-goal advantage with a thunderous strike after an awful clearance from Jean-Sylvain Babin.

Paco Alcacer then grabbed a fourth before a brilliant free kick from Neymar and a fierce strike from Ivan Rakitic from close range completed the scoring
